Pupusas and Popcorn and Tulips, OH MY!

by kerryabdow

Aaaah.  Finally.  It’s Boulder Farmers Market day!  Hurray!  We planned on going two weeks ago, and then last weekend, but life kept getting in the way, so… today was the day!  Got up early and walked the dogs first…

… and then hopped in the car and started our journey!  The drive from our house to Boulder is pretty quick, and the scenery ain’t so bad…

The weather was PERFECT – sunny, breezy and 59 degrees.  Felt like October!

We got to the market around 10, when it was pretty quiet.

Friend, Husband and I were starved, so we headed straight to the food area… must have happy bellies to be able to properly focus, right?!

I decided on a breakfast pupusa – a handmade corn tortilla stuffed with mushrooms, leeks, and some yummy, melty white cheese.  It was topped with a fried egg and came with a flavorful black bean-cabbage slaw.  It was really good!

But the winner dish of the morning was a gluten-free crepe Friend ordered from a place called Savory Saigon.  Look at the cute girl who cooked it up!  So nice!

Made to order, of course…

… it was filled with egg, cheese and spinach.  Five yums!  And gluten-free.  Hello.

We sat in a little eating area and were serenaded with harp music by That Harp Guy!  How cool is that?!

Check out his website!

After our feed-the-pie-hole break, we were ready to check out the offerings.  The first place we went was called Far Out Garden.  Of course.  *Boulder.  They had a lovely display of organic produce and herbs…

… including the most amazing wild arugula that was SO so so peppery.  We snatched up a couple of bags for $4 each.  Pppppppffffffffffftttttttttttttttt.  Cheap!  More on the arugula later…

We wandered around some more, enjoying the day, chatting with the vendors, and buying gorgeous tomatoes, green garlic, cucumbers, and other treasures.

We came across many cute dogs and kids, including this sweetie who was REALLY loving his yogurt!

And we found this amazing popcorn called Ryder’s Red…  WOW.  Love.

Post-pop we made our way out of the market and on to Starbucks for some iced teas, and ended up hanging out on the mall for a bit…

If you’ve never been to the Pearl Street Mall in Boulder… well, it’s a bit of a freak show.  I love it!  Apparently today is the Tulip Festival in Boulder, and there was some sort of fairy parade at 3 p.m..  This explains why there were a plethora of bubble-blowing costumed characters allllllll over the mall…

And the tulips everywhere were SOOOOOOO beautiful!!

After a little shopping and a lot of people watching, we were ready to head back to Chez Welsh.  We unpacked our treasures…

… and Friend made a salad with the wild arugula, olive oil, fresh lemon juice, a little sea salt and cracked pepper, and shredded parmesan cheese.  Perfect simple summer salad!

And now it’s time to relax and enjoy the rest of this gorgeous evening.  Hope you’re having a fantastic weekend as well!  Until next time…

Cheers, Dears!
